Echoes of Sorrow
“Some stories weigh so heavy you can’t carry them in words.
You can only draw them.”
The Story
I had just read a news story about a young girl raped by men who saw her as less than human.
I wish I could tell you that I read it calmly, but I did not.
I cried. I could not stop.
and for days afterward, it followed me.
The image of her. The pain she would now have to carry.
I did not know what to do with that weight.
So, I picked up a pencil.
And slowly, stroke by stroke Echoes of Sorrow came to life.
A girl. A gaze. Eyes that ask the questions the world refuses to answer.
“Why?”
“Why me?”
“Why does this happen at all?”
Why It Exists
This piece exists because sometimes the world is too cruel, and art is the only place left to speak the truth.
I could not forget her eyes.
I could not forget the thousands of others like her unseen, unheard, carrying their wounds in silence.
And I could not stay silent myself.
Echoes of Sorrow is for them.
For the survivors.
For the ones still fighting.
For the ones we have failed to protect.
For the ones who understand the pain of those who went through the hell or going
everyday. The fear of touch of other human being scares them, the mental trauma and anxiety and God what not.
It is also a challenge to all of us:
Will we keep turning away?
Or will we finally look really look and begin to change this broken world?
Artist’s Note
“I drew this through tears.
I didn’t care if it was perfect. I only cared if it was honest.”
Every line, every shadow in this piece carries that weight not just mine, but the echo of every survivor’s unspoken pain.
